Now the turtles are all in to water sports but the Turtle Dad loves to chase a white ball around the fields and in and out of the tress. What the Turtle Dad does may not be called golf but he does consume a lot of information and products to where he can make it better.

This morning I awoke to find the turtles feeding on the last of the gold fish. The last one had survived almost a year and was as big as the turtles.

The fish would even push the turtles away at feeding time to get a share of the food. Really surprised that this fish lasted this long. It has been over two months since the 4 other big fish were eaten.

So for almost a year the fish survived and even thrived growing to be over 4 inches long. Eventually though the nature of the turtles came out and the fish is no more.

Now how does this apply to marketing? After all that is the theme here.

First nature does not change. Maude can’t believe that the turtles would do such a thing after sharing a tank that long. Wrong. The nature of turtles is to eat fish. The world is an eat or be eaten place. That does not change – EVER.

Sooner or later the turtles were going to eat the fish. It did not matter how smart the fish was, how fast the fish was, it was a foregone conclusion.

In that tank the turtles were at the top of the food chain. Had the fish been in a tank with out the turtles the fish might have been at the top.

The fish had the same nature and always went after the small feeder fish that were added as a turtle snack every so often too.

That is one of the reasons I always talk about finding niche markets. Find a “tank” where you can be at the top of the food chain.

Even if you can have a bit of success competing in the big “tank” like the internet marketing arena sooner or later the nature of the turtles will catch up with you. Find an area where you can easily be the top of the food chain.

I used to think that Baby was the smartest of the turtles but she is proving me wrong.Here is a picture of her waiting for the scrap rocks to come out of Gizmo’s mouth. Now why they love to eat the rocks I have no idea but it used to be that Baby would go off into her own corner to sort out the rocks she wanted. As she gets bigger she seems to be content with the scraps.

Not smart on her part. Are you doing the same with your business?

Now don’t get me wrong I love affiliate marketing but I love affiliates selling my products better. It is part of the reason I created the Niche Affiliate System.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to enter new niches. Find out what is selling to the crowd so you know exactly how…

• They consume information
• The type of information that is selling
• The amount people will spend for information
• Who the list owners are in the niche

The key is that ultimately you want your product and your affiliates selling it. Marlon Sanders calls it trading products for dollars rather than time for dollars which we are all used to if you have a JOB.

Use your affiliate marketing to better understand your niche, build the relationships and find the holes that can be filled just like I show you in the Niche Affiliate System but then you need to get your product out.

This way you can leverage the relationships you have built. If you are filling a missing spot in the market don’t you think that most of the product owners you have supported in the niche would be interested in making some extra affiliate cash recommending your product to their customers?

Do you think the list you have built to promote those other people’s products would be interested in that hole stuffer too?

See once you are comfortable in the niche it is easy to find the spot where you don’t compete but complement others. I know you can so what is stopping you?

After the last time the turtles went on a fish diet the gold fish got a lot more careful. After a month or so though that caution went away and the biggest one got aggressive again. When I would feed the turtles the fish would push them out of the way to get his share.

Yesterday that caught up with him and the turtles are back on a fish diet. Despite being bigger than the turtles it did not stop them from making a meal out of him.

Now it is not pleasant to see but it is the turtle’s nature to eat fish. Not sure what triggered it as my turtles are always well fed in fact maybe a bit too much at times but something set them off.

Now how does this apply to your marketing?

No matter how big you get in your niche there is always a potential turtle out there ready to eat you for lunch. It is one of the reasons that I spread the risk over multiple niches and am always testing out new ones.

The last post I talked about how the turtles always strive to be on top. They strive to be the “top turtle” and lounge up on the top of the ramp. The picture to the left shows Baby in the coveted top spot. She only gets it when the others as you can see in the next picture are competing in a different area.

This is one of the reasons I discuss niche marketing so much. Finding a profitable niche without a lot of competition from the big guys works. Period.

One of the easiest ways I know of to do just that and grow your business is to use Niche PLR System. Each month you get 5 sites already programmed to allow you to start monetizing them in different small niches.

Baby has quickly become the smartest of the turtles. She has to be to survive in the tank. All three of the other turtles are bigger than her and most of the fish are too.

But watching her can teach you some good lessons on how to survive in the cut throat marketing arena. When one of the big turtles go digging in the gravel (still haven’t figured out why they love that but they do) she hangs nearby. As they kick up all the crumbs that have fallen and got lodged in the gravel she has a feast.

See the big guys could care less about them but those are baby sized pieces of food. Yes she does get stepped on and pushed away if she tries to interfere but for the most part she is growing quite nicely off of the scraps the others couldn’t be bothered with.

This really is the key to marketing in niches or micro niches. They are not big enough to be of interest to the big players but for a small business you can become quite well fed.

Even better as you find one it is repeatable process. One won’t make you rich but…

Find 10 that make $300 a month and you are starting to grow nicely. Just keep growing one little site at a time and get to 30 or so and you are a six figure earner. If you are working in related areas but start with the scraps pretty soon you can compete with the big guys.

For example dog training is a very competitive niche. Start with miniature schnauzers training then move to schnauzers training then to a variety of other breeds training. None of them will necessarily be super profitable but it would be easy to dominate in a lot of those and eventually you would have the potential to be a player in dog training.

In two to three years when Baby is almost grown the size difference won’t be enough that she won’t be able to compete directly. Building a network on topic is like her growth it gradually catches up to the big guys one little piece at a time.

Now the key is to do the proper research and plan out what type of niche to start . Finding Profitable Niches by Teri Champigny is a good place to start. Find a place where you CAN compete and build it up one piece at a time until you can compete with the big guys. Baby is.

Competition even amongst the turtles can be fierce. Now I still have no idea why they love to eat certain rocks but they do. In this picture Gizmo is pushing Gizzie out of his preferred area. The 3 big turtles always seem to want to compete over the same small are of rocks despite the fact that there are plenty of other areas where they can sort to find their rock throughout the bottom of the tank.

But no…

They have to all be in the same area. Kind of like watching some internet marketers. They all want to compete against each other in the same small arena and keep pushing and shoving for attention. Now if you are big and strong enough to dominate the others that can be fine. Unfortunately, that is not most of us.

Baby on the other hand seems to be the smartest of the turtles.

While the other three are all fighting each other she goes and finds the little places that the others are just too big to get in easily.

She takes advantage of her smaller size and gets the cream of the rocks in the areas where they don’t fit.

She doesn’t have to fight an unfair battle against the much bigger turtles and can search for her rocks in relative peace because the others just don’t want to put in the effort to dominate a small piece they would rather compete for bragging rights against each other.

Niche marketing is using Baby’s tactics. This morning the other three are still busy fighting each other for rocks and she has already gotten what she wants and she is up on top of the ramp relaxing.

Baby has stepped up and decided to help with the blog and show me things that the other big turtles have not. Yes she is probably only a tenth of the size of the others. Even the fish are a lot bigger than she is too.

Despite the size difference she has her own way of making sure she gets her share during the feeding frenzy that happens twice a day. Everybody gather near the front of the tank pushing and shoving to get the best position as the food comes in.

Baby realizes that she can’t compete there at her size and does not try to compete with the others. Everyone else is pushing and shoving and disperse the food all over the place.

As everyone else is fighting in the front with each other Baby sits back and chows down on the food that has been dispersed to the back while everyone else is still fighting up front.

Now if Baby tried to fight up front and compete with all the bigger beings in the tank she would be a very hungry little turtle. Instead by sitting back and working on the edges she becomes quite well fed.

This is the part that reminds me of an internet business. Too many people are trying to compete in the hyper competitive markets and missing the chance to stay on the fringe and just chow down without fighting tooth and nail.

This is why the people that are starting out and do well are those that work “in the back of the tank”. Yes working in the niches are the best place to get started. The key is to find a profitable niche and work there and not try to compete where you will get stepped on or pushed to the side.

That is one of the reasons that I like Finding Profitable Niches. This allows you to find the places in the back of the tank where you can be well fed without fighting with the big ones.
