The Turtle Dad is back because the turtles are growing too big for their equipment and I wanted to post instead of Gizmo. He did try to bite me when he saw me open up this blog as he has become a bit protective of it of late.

Fortunately I still have control and locked the top of the tank so he is stuck and can respond later this week if he desires when I take a break.

If you look at the picture to the right the ramp they have in the tank is now on the bottom of the tank instead of providing them with a resting place out of the water. When they all get on it they are too heavy for it to support them anymore.

This happens with your business too. As it grows some of the tools that you use may be too light weight to support your current business.

One of the first places you may see this is with web hosting. You start out with a small plan but often if your business is successful (isn’t that what we all want?) you may find your site displaying the bandwidth exceeded sign instead of your blog, sales page or squeeze page.

Making sure that you can expand with your web host easily is an important thing to look at when you are looking at hosting.

Now there are other things to consider with hosting and support is always the top of the list but make sure that you can easily scale up your hosting when you start and this will save you lots of headaches as your business grows.

Once again it is time to look at changing the turtles home. The large ramp can no longer handle the weight of the bigger turtles and despite having six suction cups they usually work it loose within a day or two of placing it back.

As they have grown bigger their residence keeps changing. After all they started in a little plastic dish almost two years ago. Then they went into a 10 gallon tank and then their current 50 gallon tank.

The ramp was replaced for a larger one when they changed tanks and now it is time to come up with a new arrangement. After all they were the size of a quarter when the odyssey began and now are about 5 inches long. A big change.

Your business and the tools you use change as you grow too.

Lets look at keyword research. When you are small and just starting out you can use the light weight free versions like the Google external keyword research tool. Takes a bit of time and effort but handles enough to get you started.

As your business grows and you are getting bigger the time involved can become overwhelming and although it will still work you need something more heavy duty.

Usually I don’t use a big picture but I wanted you to see the detail in this. Now that dock was bought a few months back to handle the growing turtles. They have gotten so big now that the dock keeps dipping into the water when all 4 get on it one time.

Add in that they are quickly out growing the 40 gallon tank and it is about time to have to invest some more in their habitat. Guess they better start posting more often to increase their income from here .

Your business will be the same way. One of the reasons I recommend certain vendors is to make that growth easier. For example when you are just starting to build your list you need an autoresponder. If you use one like Aweber you can continue to grow without worry. Yes it will cost you a bit more as your list grows but you won’t have to worry about changing vendors.

Wish I could do that with my tank and just let it expand to fit the growing turtles. Would gladly pay the extra for that.

Like wise when you pick a web host you want the same ability. Get someone that will handle your growth easily. One of the reasons I like Zoot Host is that as I need more space Jon takes care of it. He moves the sites to the new box when it is necessary.

So take the time to get vendors that will be able to make your growth easy. You will appreciate it in the long term.

Now I just wish I could find a vendor to upgrade my turtle tank without any effort on my part.

The turtles tend to be extremely dirty creatures and without some sort of filtering system the water would need to be changed daily. Yes I love them but…

If I did not have a way to automate the cleaning of the tank I am not sure I could put in the effort needed to supply them with a clean environment to live in.
