Go until you get the one thing done

Three Turtle Marketing

turtle 053Was watching Gizmo try to get his fat self behind the filter intake tube this morning. Sorry the light was not great as it was early. He kept going and going until he had moved enough stuff around that he could just get through there.

I have absolutely no idea why he had to go through there but that was his goal and he decided he would. Now when I saw him start I was laughing because he is twice the width of the space between the glass and the spout and it would be impossible for him to fit.

Because turtles are not the smartest creatures I have ever seen he didn’t know that and didn’t care. 25 minutes later the impossible was done to my surprise.

Now I wasn’t really happy about it because the intake almost came out of the tank but he kept trying one thing after another until he finished what he started. Now I still don’t know why he wanted to go through there and have no idea what the payoff was for him but he wanted to and he did.

How much better would your business be if you had the same single minded purpose in accomplishing what you needed in your business.

Focusing on a single task to completion is one of the takeaways I got from Time Management On Crack. All too often we start 10 things and do a bit of all of them but complete none.

While the turtles are not the smartest animals I have ever had they do have a focus when they are going after what they want. Nothing gets in the way and once they have achieved it then they go sun themselves. No half done things all go or all rest.

Think doing this in your business might help?

Well your turtle sure has some good focus. I think that is something that most of us struggle with because we have so many ways of getting side tracked these days. We can learn from your turtle and decide to stay the course until the job is done.

OK, I was about to put a partially finished project aside with the intention of getting back to it later. Thought I needed a break and have so many other things to do, one of which was to check on my friends blog posts. Now instead I am going to stretch my legs, take a quick look at my garden and sit back down here to work on the first project.

By the way, I am making myself take little breaks every hour to get in a little exercise and get a little break.

It will be good to get it done.

You’ve hit on a great point here, Mike – most truly successful people succeed because they never convinced themselves they wouldn’t. If Gizmo had looked at the space an thought ‘I’ll never make it into that small space’ then he wouldn’t have. Instead he focused on ‘this is what I want to do’ and stayed at it til successful.

And yes – that sort of perseverance is what it takes to win every time!

Mike, I agree that having a “single minded purpose in accomplishing what you needed in your business” is a key to getting things done. My doing that I was able to get two squeeze page systems out this week to build my list. I work on one until it was done and then started and finished the second one. Now, if someone would just sigh up. LOL

I can see that pushing through a certain task until it’s done is a good thing… but I guess that if we take the time and push through a task that maybe we shouldn’t be doing, that could be a lot of wasted time.

It’s all about setting a plan and making sure that that plan is the right thing to do to boost our business.

i agree to a point but even doing the wrong thing getting it done and failing lead you closer to succeess. Too many people spend all their time getting it right instead of finding out if it works. If it does you can make it better.

Wow, I wish I had that kind of single minded focus. I am working on it, but not quite there yet!

With yours and Doug’s help I am slowly getting there.

I have done much better this last week and hope to be able to push it through to this week. If I can just keep working into longer and longer stretches without getting distracted I know I will do much better.

Thanks for all your help Mike!

I have been learning much from your turtles Mike ever since you started this blog. Watching them seems to be a great learning experience. Got close to getting some… but I decided it is more efficient to keep coming back to this blog and read the advice…

    Thanks Mike.
