Are you prepared for growth

Usually I don’t use a big picture but I wanted you to see the detail in this. Now that dock was bought a few months back to handle the growing turtles. They have gotten so big now that the dock keeps dipping into the water when all 4 get on it one time.

Add in that they are quickly out growing the 40 gallon tank and it is about time to have to invest some more in their habitat. Guess they better start posting more often to increase their income from here ;) .

Your business will be the same way. One of the reasons I recommend certain vendors is to make that growth easier. For example when you are just starting to build your list you need an autoresponder. If you use one like Aweber you can continue to grow without worry. Yes it will cost you a bit more as your list grows but you won’t have to worry about changing vendors.

Wish I could do that with my tank and just let it expand to fit the growing turtles. Would gladly pay the extra for that.

Like wise when you pick a web host you want the same ability. Get someone that will handle your growth easily. One of the reasons I like Zoot Host is that as I need more space Jon takes care of it. He moves the sites to the new box when it is necessary.

So take the time to get vendors that will be able to make your growth easy. You will appreciate it in the long term.

Now I just wish I could find a vendor to upgrade my turtle tank without any effort on my part.

Great point, Mike – one of the issues newbies are seldom advised on is scalability. As you’ve discussed, if a business can’t grow where it’s planted, it faces a lot of downtime and adjustments when it needs to be transplanted to a bigger box.

If you want to be a big fish, make sure our pond can grow to accommodate it!

I see the turtles are full of wisdom again. I have found Aweber to be very reliable. I am not as familiar with Zoot Host but I have heard good things about it. Those are some of the basic things needed. I hope those turtles pull their weight so they can get a bigger home.

This comment is for the turtles themselves…
    Happy Birthday/Happy Moving Day! :)

I suppose when you got them last year it was not their birthday, but it’s been a year since you had them, congrats!

Glad to know the turtles are alive and well.

Was afraid something happened to them…

I’m looking forward to dealing with a growth problem, I hope it comes soon. So far my biggest growth area has been around my middle as I sit in front of the computer all day. :) But your point is well taken.

    Great post Mike,

You are right on the money with this one. It is very important to start with someone that can grow with you over time.

I was lucky enough to get in with the correct vendors when I started so have not had many issues because of that. It was however, just dumb luck, because at the time I really had no clue.

I hope people take you suggestions here, because it is very important and makes things so much easier along the way.

I haven’t needed the growth yet. Hope I do soon. but I am glad that Aweber is there when my list requires it.

I agree with Earl’s comment also the middle of the body seems to catch all the growth. Very good points about getting started with someone that can handle the growth of your business in the future.
