8 to 3 why?

By admin | April 17, 2009

turtle 048Turtles went on a rampage this week. Went from 8 fish to 3 in a matter of a few hours. That is not totally surprising after all turtles eat fish and that is why they were in there.

The surprise was not that they ate the fish but why now? The 3 little ones had been in there for a month. They were the survivors from the last batch I bought of 8 feeder fish. The two big ones they got were an even bigger surprise. The 5 big fish (now 3) were as big or bigger than the turtles and had shared the tank for well over 6 months.

Now let me be truthful I have no idea why they picked the day they did to go on a fish diet. They get fed the same time and same amount each day. Nothing has changed so why now?

Well the same thing happens with people coming to your product. They may see it over and over and not buy. One day the stop and it is the day. They buy the product, the up sell, take the bonus in the first email follow up. Why?

Quite truthfully I have no idea why anymore than I can tell you why the turtles went on a fish eating spree. What I do know is that it does happen.

The key is to take advantage of that by continuing to get your offer in front of your potential customers.

The best way to do that is by list building and following up regularly. That is one of the reasons I really like and recommend Jimmy D. Brown’s List PROFIT System. Building your list and following up with them helps you make sure that your offer gets to your prospective customer when they are ready to go in a feeding frenzy.

The fish are always in the tank but they only get eaten when the turtles are ready. Make sure your offer is there for your customer when they are ready too.

    Thanks for the advice Mike.

List building and following up is necessary to continually build a good relationship with those on your list. But as you stated it is also good to follow up continuing to get your offer in front of your potential customers. They need to see it more than once.

Very true… your potential customers should see your message several times, and eventually many of them will end up becoming your customers. The more times and places we can get our message out, the more customers we will probably have.

Great post Mike. It is really amazing that you can advertise something and show it to people for a while and they never do anything and one day they just grab. You are right that we have to be ready for that when it does happen. Thanks for the reminder.

    Very interesting concept Mike

It does make you wonder why they would wait for 6 months and then start devouring the same fish they have been in the tank with for such a long time.

I agree with your analogy though, and it is very curious. May have to think on that one a while.

Mike, I agree that list building and following up regularly with email is the key to success.
I will look to Jimmy’s List Profit System. I have now been 6 weeks in his affiliatenaire program and he has an excellent style of writing and bringing points across. I expect that his List Profit System will be as good.

Excellent information. Never thought of it that way. I guess it had to take a trio of turtles to bring it home.

Powerful post – full of information there, Mike! It is funny how contemplating the natural world around us and the harmonies and cycles that exist can suddenly give us flashes of brilliance about our work environment too…

As to showing the product to the same audience a number of times, the Direct Marketing Association has long held that on average it takes 7-9 exposures for the average person to make a buying decision. While that time horizon seems to be shortened somewhat online, any big-dog marketer will tell you the second or third e-mail about a product will often outsell the first, and sales are usually made with the fourth, fifth and sometimes 6th followup as well.
